DONT SPLASH Beginner Guide

Facts checked October 25, 2026 against live gameplay sources.

Quick answer

  • Create a party of 1–4 at the lobby pad, choose the Poolrooms map, and start on Easy — it has the most platforms and the gentlest jumps.
  • The monster is blind. Dry platforms make you invisible; water makes you heard.
  • Most first deaths come from four mistakes: touching water, standing on sinking tiles, rushing the rotating bridge, or jumping over the monster.
  • Spend your first coins on Throwing Range and Pebble Skipping — they are your only self-defense tools.

How to start your first run

DONT SPLASH drops you into a flooded poolrooms complex where a blind monster hunts by sound. Your goal each run: cross every room without touching the water, then escape through the exit. Before any of that, you start in the lobby.

Walk into the "Touch to create a party" pad. Set your party size from 1 to 4 players, choose the Poolrooms map, and pick a difficulty. Leave the Farm option alone for now — as of October 24, 2026 it is not published yet and returns an error if selected. Press CREATE, then START NOW to begin.

Pick Easy for your first runs. Easy rooms are smaller, the platforms are closer together, and coins pay half of Normal — but finishing runs is what unlocks everything else. The lobby also has a 3RD PERSON switch pad; many players find third-person much easier for judging platform landings.

Choose your difficulty

DifficultyRooms & platformsCoins per escape
EasySmall rooms, lots of platforms150 (half of Normal)
NormalLarger rooms, fewer platforms300
HardLongest maps, fewest platforms450 (unlocked after 2 Normal clears)

The coins column is the repeatable payout per escape. On top of that, your account receives a one-time 150 first-escape bonus and a 50 daily bonus. Neither refreshes when you switch difficulty — so the real long-term income move is switching from Easy to Normal, which doubles every future run.

The one rule that keeps you alive

Every stage spells it out on the wall: "It can't see you. It hears the water." The monster has no vision. Standing still on a dry platform directly above it is safe. The moment you splash — landing in water, clipping the surface on a jump, or letting a sinking tile drop you in — it charges the exact spot at high speed.

Distance is your safety margin. A splash far from the monster gives you a few seconds to clear the area. A splash right next to it usually ends the run. When in doubt, wait on a solid platform and watch where the ripples are before committing to a jump.

The four deaths that end most beginner runs

  1. Touching the water. Landing in it downs you, slows you to a crawl and calls the monster at once. Treat the water surface as lava, not as a floor.
  2. Standing on sinking platforms. In the third stage, ordinary tiles submerge a few seconds after you land on them. Only dark-bordered tiles are safe to pause on — hop through light ones without stopping.
  3. Mistiming the rotating bridge. Board when the long plank lines up with your platform; jumping at a gap that is still closing is the most common way to lose a run there.
  4. Jumping over the monster. Players report being grabbed mid-air when the charging monster passes under a jump — timing a hop over its head is not a reliable escape.

Pebbles: your only weapon is a fake splash

Gray stone piles sit on platforms through every stage. Walk over them to collect pebbles, then throw one into far water to create a decoy splash — the monster rushes to it and you take the window to move. This is the core skill of the game: you never fight the monster, you redirect it.

On PC: press the item's number key, aim by tilting the camera up, and left-click to throw. On mobile: tap the item in the hotbar, then tap THROW. Our pebbles guide covers the details and common mistakes.

What to buy with your first coins

Back in the lobby, two stalls matter: EQUIPMENT (buy pebbles and tool unlocks) and UPGRADES (permanent stat boosts, three levels each). Your first 300 coins should go:

  1. Throwing Range (150 coins) — pebbles reach farther water, which means safer decoys.
  2. Pebble Skipping (150 coins) — each pebble makes more splashes, stretching the distraction window.

Skip rescue gear until you regularly play with friends — it only helps when a teammate is around to use it. The full spending order, including the 11 gamepasses, is in the coins and upgrades guide.

  5. 5

    Cross the 5 stages

    Dry landings only

  6. 6

    Open both valves

    Decoy → hold E → repeat

  7. 7

    Outrun the water

    Speed beats silence now

  1. Enter the room, read the hazard banner, and plan your route before moving.
  2. Collect pebbles from stone piles as you pass them — always keep one spare.
  3. Jump platform to platform, landing in the middle of each tile.
  4. Before any risky crossing, throw a pebble to the far side and wait for the monster to move.
  5. At the Maintenance Lock, check the monster's position, then hold E on both valves.
  6. When the water starts rising, forget stealth — sprint for the exit.

That last point surprises new players: after the second valve, speed beats silence. The exit is the only objective once the water moves. The lobby you will start from:

How long is one run?

A clean Easy run takes roughly five minutes across its three rooms. Deaths, not difficulty, are what stretch runs past fifteen minutes.

Is DONT SPLASH too scary for kids?

Roblox rates it Minimal maturity with occasional mild fear and violence. The monster is designed to startle you, so younger players may find it intense.
